Chest and Npcs Suggestions
Since there is no search button, I couldn't search for a duplicate suggestion, so here I go. Sorry for my bad English as it is my second language.
1) Chests
What is more annoying than stupid npcs? Npcs getting stuck in chests. My suggestion is to make all chests "no blocking", what I mean is that everyone can pass threw them. Example: walking threw the npcs, heroes and henchies.
Other suggestion is to make the same thing with hidden treasures, when you ping the chest, a yellow ping comes out and you can see a triangle on the radar screen. The point of that is to help the party to know the exact location for the chest.
2) Npcs
Everyone hates when they have to bring npcs in nightfall missions. My suggestion is to make exactly the same thing as factions, make them secondary party members just as Mhenlo and Togo. But also incluDe a system as my screenshot shows, where you can control the hero AND flag them, even for Togo and Mhenlo in factions.
Heroes build suggestions:
Koss - Defy pain Axe or Eviscerate axe
Melonni - Ebon dust Aura
Talkhora and Dunkoro - WoH or HB monks
Margrid - Broad Head Arrow
Master of Whispers - MM Bomber or SS Nuker
General Morgahn - Support paragon

Chests: It would fix some problems, but cause others. If you used a chest, you would stand "inside" the chest, so others would have trouble using the same chest as you. Very annoying, and perhaps even worse when doing dungeons.
NPCs: You are talking about Heroes, and not NPCs in general. Part of the challenge of these missions is to use the Hero that you need for the mission, much like having to protect Togo and/or Mhenlo in some Factions missions. You are also asking ANet to completely redo some missions in a game that they stopped making major gameplay updates for.
Besides, it would look even more stupid if you brought the same Hero along that spawns a an NPC anyway.

It would look weird, lol, but you could always have it "locked" in that mission, i.e. you can use it if you're going outside the mission outpost, but when you tried to start it, it would say, "passage denied for (insert hero name here)".

I like both ideas.
The problem with NPCs becoming stuck in chests is something I've experienced more and more as of late, so anything to cut back on that would be great. The chests being pinged on the radar is unnecessary though, and the issue of players standing on top of the chests is not an issue, because of the Ctrl/Alt keys.
As for the idea of controlling the NPCs, that would also be wonderful. In fact, why stop at the Nightfall heroes? I'd like to have the ability to flag tons of the NPCs I end up traveling with, especially those mission critical ones that seem to die far too quickly in the thick of battle.

They should also res like in eotn. >.>

Good ideas. I hate when NPC's get stuck on chests and there's no way to fix them. They should definitely do something with that.
I also like how you'd be able to flag allies like Togo and Mhenlo. This would be very effective when trying to pull large groups, as we all know how they love to commit suicide.

All against the ally flagging. They aren't following your orders, you're following their plans. The idea to turn required heroes into allies would be pretty cool though.

I would prefer better AI and pathfinding, than turning the game more RTS-like. It would be nice toactually not have to flag stuff around and micromanage your allies' every action.
